This policy explains what Arsen Palamarchuk, an individual entrepreneur (FOP) registered in Ukraine ("we", "us"), collects when you use the Rising Pawn iOS app and the website at https://risingpawn.com (together, the "Service"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

The short version

we store your chess games and the training we build from them, we use analytics and crash reports to keep the app working, we never sell your data, and we never use it for ads. You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings at any time.

1. Who we are

Arsen Palamarchuk, individual entrepreneur (FOP) registered in Ukraine. Email: support@risingpawn.com.

2. What we collect

Account

  • Anonymous account. When you first open the app we create an account for you with a random user ID. You do not have to give us your name or email to use the app.
  • Sign-in details, only if you choose to save your progress: your email address (sign-in by a 6-digit code), or the name and email that Apple or Google share with us when you sign in with them. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your real email; we then receive Apple's relay address.
  • Display name, if you set one.

Chess data

  • Chess usernames you enter for chess.com and Lichess.
  • Your games from those accounts: the moves, result, time control, your and your opponent's ratings, your opponent's username, the opening and the date. We fetch only games that chess.com and Lichess already publish through their public APIs. We keep polling for new games while your account is connected.
  • Our analysis of those games: engine evaluations, the mistakes we found, the patterns we tagged them with, our estimate of the rating points they cost you, the puzzles we built from them and the explanations.
  • Your training: answers to puzzles (right or wrong, how long you took, whether you answered in the app, on a widget, in a Live Activity or during onboarding), review schedule, streaks and progress.

Answers you give us

Onboarding answers: what brought you to the app, how you rate your own chess, which statements describe you, and the rating we estimate from the short test. We use them to shape your plan.

Settings

Daily training minutes, puzzle difficulty and source, notification preferences and times, Live Activity time, your timezone, and your Focus settings (mode, goal, schedule, reward minutes, and how many apps you selected — but not which ones, see "Screen Time" below).

Device and push data

  • A per-install identifier (Apple's identifier for vendor, or a random ID if it is unavailable). We use it to register your device for push notifications and to make the one-time free week a one-time offer.
  • Push notification tokens for alerts and Live Activities, your app version, timezone and whether you have added our widget (so we check for new games more often).
  • IP address in our server logs and in analytics, where it is used for an approximate location (country and region) and then not kept as part of your profile.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold through Apple. We and our subscription provider, RevenueCat, receive your user ID, the product you bought, transaction identifiers and the status of your subscription (trial, active, cancelled, refunded). We never see your payment card or your Apple ID password.

Analytics and crash reports

We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and to find bugs. We send:

  • which screens you open, and events such as "connected a chess account", "started a session", "answered a puzzle", "started a purchase", "changed a setting", "opened the app from the widget";
  • device model, iOS version, app version, language and timezone;
  • crash reports and error reports: what went wrong, where in the app, and the state of the app at that moment.

We do not record your screen, your taps or your keystrokes, and we do not use an advertising identifier. Analytics are tied to your user ID so we can see your journey through the app; they are not shared with advertisers or data brokers.

Screen Time (Focus)

If you turn on Focus, the app asks for Screen Time permission and you pick the apps to block. Apple gives us only opaque tokens for those apps. The tokens stay on your device, inside the app's private storage, and are never sent to us. We cannot see which apps you chose or how long you use them. We store only your Focus settings and your progress toward the goal.

Website

If our website offers an analysis board, it runs in your browser. Games you open there stay in your browser unless you choose to share or export them. The website may use the same analytics described above.

3. What we do not collect

Your location (beyond the approximate location derived from your IP address), your contacts, your photos, your health data, your browsing on other apps or sites, or any data from the apps you block with Focus.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. The categories we collect are identifiers, account and commercial information, internet activity in our app (screens and events), and inferences (your estimated rating and mistake patterns). You may use an authorized agent; we will ask for proof of authorization.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

11. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). Our database restricts every user to their own rows, and only our servers can read across accounts. Access to production systems is limited to the people who run the Service. No method is perfect; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.

12. Changes

We will post any new version here with a new "Last updated" date. If a change matters to you, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
